Before & After identification to avoid costly rectifications
Unfortunately in most industries and projects Punchlist is a ‘dirty word’ and often is only considered ‘required’ when Factory Acceptance Testing is underway.
The reality is the use of a singular project Punch List allows the Project Manager and those working on tasks to clearly identify issues and rectify them well in advance of any closing out process. A Rolling Punch List allows for continual improvement throughout the project and ensures quality processes are being followed.
To put the above comments into reality, it is far more efficient to capture an issue when in the workshop and know you have resolved the problem, rather than an attitude of ‘she’ll be right’ or ‘i will get to it later’ be the reason your business is spending three times that of the original cost to fix the same issue on a site.
There should only be one official punch list, however each trade or subcontractor within the manufacture of your E-House or Switchroom should keep their own punch list. If you want to get complete control of your manufacturing process then the Punch List is an integral process.
Photographic documentation of the item is always recommended as it provides the ‘before and after’ of the rectification and is a point of reference should the need arise to prove that the issue was dealt with.
EQ House recommends that the use of a Punch list is a collaborative document that anyone can add to and raise issues around quality. The inclusion of your staff and contractors ensures that you always have extra ‘eyes’ on the project and that even the smallest issues can be captured and closed. We also recommend inclusion of your client in the process during Hold and Witness points so they too see that you are on your game.
